A satirical take on the dangers of pathological altruism- well intentioned behaviour, sometimes masking symbolic capital, that harms others. It is a type of altruism that is misguided, aimed often inwards, divorced from reality and ignores the truth that humanity, as fallen, is as capable of goodness through grace as evil without it. It also assumes a utopian vision that often realises a dystopia. It tends to be marshalled by over sentimentalisation and reliant on virtue signalling rather than prudence. It is over representef in liberal left circles and is framed as ‘pastoralism ‘ by clergy who abdicate reason for emotional rhetoric- with dire consequences for the innocent.
